002: Dare to keep adults off drugs.

This was one of the strips that we did for the old La Casa when we made a brief run at it last year. It’s one of my favorite ones that I wrote the idea for, though the idea has been Theoified in this instance, so I can’t take full credit. He changed it for the better, I think, though I’d love to tamper with the dialogue in the last panel. At some point I’ll see if I can dig up digitally adequate versions of the old comic, and throw them on here in the archives for your perusal. I’ll warn you now, though, that they do not meet our current, high standard of artistic excellence. That’s just a fancy way of saying that Theo changed his drawing style for the comic since then, and it looks much better this way.

The dealer in the last panel is based on an actual Olympia personality, who was commonly referred to as “Dealer Dan”. His M.O. was quite simply to proposition everyone who passed to purchase “weed” from him. Whether it was a hoax, or he just possessed some sort of mysterious luck, he continued to deal openly in the middle of downtown Olympia for over a year without getting arrested. Around the same time, the Olympia P.D. began to crack down seriously on jaywalking, imposing $75 fines for each infraction. Why they did so is a mystery to me, but the overall message was clear: “It’s okay to deal dope, but don’t cross the street unless the little flashing white dude says it’s okay. We’re watching you.” Welcome to Olympia.

So the site layout is decent, for the moment. I’ll probably tweak it a little more to display properly in all browsers at 1024×768. Other than that, I may be content to let it lie for awhile. You never know, though. I may change shit around. The “back” button will actually take you to the front page, the archives will randomly send you to a Martha Stewart webcam, and I’ll amp the hits counter to a gajillion. You know, just to fuck with you.

Anyway, enjoy the comic and have a good weekend! We’ll catch you Monday.
